DP World Constanta signs protocol agreement with Customs
Date: 16/04/2019
DP World Constanta signed a protocol agreement with the Constanța South Customs Office of the Regional General Directorate for Public Finances Galați. The document lays out a co-operative arrangement on facilitating control processes conducted by local customs authorities. The protocol provides a framework in which DP World Constanta can provide to Customs, free of charge, a state-of-the -art X-ray scanner, with the aim of enabling frictionless container traffic flow through the Constanta South Port and simultaneously complying with all customs security requirements.
This protocol agreement underpins the ability to promptly release import containers from customs. The X-ray scanner will be placed within the container terminal and is destined to be used exclusively for non-destructive customs controls, in the scanning of containers and transport vehicles.
The protocol defines the rights and responsibilities governing the collaboration between the two entities over an initial 10 years timeframe. This is a strategic action for DP World Constanta, in its 15th year of operation in Romania’s biggest port, marking the company’s transition from a local port operator to a smart trade enabler.
DP World Constanța Managing Director Cosmin Cârstea said:
“The signing of the protocol upholds the principles of gate-guarding and trade facilitation. We continue to improve container traffic flows from the terminal into Romania and beyond. This framework has major advantages for all the stakeholders involved: it benefits the port directly, while indirectly fueling the national economy, through enhancing cargo clearance efficiency and ensuring effective law enforcement.”
