Brad Biggar, Electronic Repairs Technician at DP World Europe

“My journey to becoming an Electronic Repairs Technician at DP World Europe has been nothing short of inspiring. With 27 years in engineering, I’ve always had a passion for problem-solving and pushing the boundaries of innovation. Back in 2016, during a time of uncertainty, I decided to take a leap towards a more secure future – and that’s when I found DP World London Gateway. After working on regional innovation projects at a terminal in South Africa, I knew this was the perfect place to grow and make an impact.”

A Company that Cares

“They didn’t just offer me a job – they welcomed me with open arms, supporting my relocation and helped me adapt to local practices. However, it wasn’t just the company’s support that stood out; it was also their empathy during the toughest moments of my life. In 2022, I suffered a heart attack and had to undergo bypass surgery. During my recovery, DP World was there for me, offering unwavering support and ensuring I had everything I needed to return to work with confidence. Their care and understanding meant the world to me and my family.”

Where Innovation Meets Teamwork

“Today, as an Electronic Repairs Technician, I’m proud to be part of a company that values innovation, teamwork, and, most importantly, people. My role is all about ensuring the terminal’s electronic systems run smoothly, minimising downtime, and supporting seamless operations. A typical day for me starts with reviewing the maintenance schedule, prioritising tasks, and troubleshooting issues. Whether it’s a malfunctioning sensor on a crane or a communication problem with an automated guided vehicle (AGV), I use a combination of technical expertise and diagnostic tools to quickly identify and solve the problem.”

Solving real-world problems

“One of the most rewarding projects I’ve worked on involved designing and building a mechanical vibration monitoring system for our Automatic Stacking Cranes (ASCs). This complex challenge required integrating systems, analysing data, and creating real-time insights for our engineering teams. The project helped us detect vibration-related issues and make precise repairs – showing the true power of engineering to solve real-world problems.”
