Deep Water Facilities
Container vessels are not only increasing in size but also in environmental efficiency so that shipping lines can provide their customers with more capacity, flexibly and sustainable solutions when getting their goods from A to B.
DP World Southampton understands the pressures shipping lines face to reduce costs, save fuel and increase capacity and our response is to offer better productivity and flexible berthing windows when calling at Southampton.
DP World Southampton can handle the largest containers vessels in the world like the 23,820 TEU capacity HMM Oslo.
To meet the needs of these giant vessels, £100 million was invested to build a new 500-metre deep-sea berth. Together with the terminal’s existing berths, DP World Southampton can now service three deep-sea vessels at once. The investment also included widening and deepening the main access channel to the container terminal.
More space and more depth, Southampton offers:
- 1.92 km of deepwater quay (up to 16 metres depth alongside)
- Accommodates vessels up to 430 metres in length
- 14 quay cranes of which six are 23 wide and six 24 wide
- Fleet of hybrid straddle carriers.
