DP World Maputo adding juice to South Africa’s citrus exports

DP World Maputo is making a splash in the market by providing enhanced export solutions for customers across Mozambique and southern Africa – including South Africa’s lucrative citrus fruit sector.Our team in Mozambique will continue to manage, develop and operate the container terminal at the Port of Maputo till at least 2043 and a range of new solutions, including a direct sailing service, is allowing us to enhance the South African citrus industry’s exports to high demand markets like the Middle East and Southeast Asia. 

The South African citrus growing region next door to Mozambique produces more than 50,000 FEUs (Forty Foot Equivalent Units) over a six-month season. That makes South Africa the world’s second-largest citrus exporter in 2020.Such a huge sector needs a stable gateway to get to far flung markets. That’s where our team in Maputo come in. Customers across southern Africa are seeing the benefits of our Maputo terminal. Through an efficient and reliable gateway, we are able to help the region prosper, stimulating economic development.
