GLOBAL PARTNERSHIPS
Jane Goodall Institute Roots and Shoots Programme
We are working with the Jane Goodall Institute to develop DP World-branded education resources that will be distributed across their Roots and Shoots programmes around the world.
In the course of this collaboration, we have accomplished the following:
- Engaged 188,000 young people in online campaigns and activities.
- Supported more than 534 R&S groups spanning 43 countries.
- Involved over 600 teachers.
- Planted in excess of 44,000 indigenous trees within communities.
DP World is actively engaging young tech innovators to address global trade challenges through educational initiatives. The "Big Tech Project" encourages students from leading universities in the UK and India to develop technology-based solutions for optimising global supply chains. The program involves designing prototypes under the guidance of mentors, and winners receive internships, laptops, and cash prizes. DP World is also expanding its technology centres globally, with recent establishments in Bengaluru and Hyderabad in India.
In another initiative, DP World is fostering the capabilities of British and international coders, developers, and engineers to drive the future of the UK. The company has formed a diverse global team with expertise in AI, blockchain, and full-stack development. Notable technology solutions, like CARGOES IoT+'s Digital Twin, showcase the talent attracted by DP World.
Additionally, DP World is committed to promoting environmental education and conservation. Efforts include educational programs in Yarimca, Turkey, focusing on reducing plastic waste by educating children and raising awareness among colleagues. In Callao, Peru, DP World published a children's book, "Ecocuento," written and illustrated by employees and their families, emphasising environmental care.
Moreover, DP World facilitates university and school programmes, offering various engagement opportunities for students, including tours, career talks, workshops, webinars, and hackathons. The company's commitment to sustainability and community involvement is evident in projects like the "Mind Your Waste" initiative in Yarimca, Turkey, promoting environmentally friendly practices within the communities where DP World operates.
GENDER EQUALITY LENS
To ensure our community programs are supportive of girls and women as well as boys and men, we use our Gender Equality Lens. Sustainability Champions across regions are trained to apply a gender lens to all projects being supported to ensure we have an equal split of males and females benefiting from our programmes. We have identified the following 2030 goals to ensure females are a key beneficiary of our community strategy: 1 million girls and women will be supported by our community investment programmes and 100,000 hours of employee volunteering dedicated to women empowerment activities.
MEASURING AGAINST THE SDGs
DP World's education initiatives strongly align with UN SDGs 4 and 5
SDG 4: Quality Education
Alongside the addition of DP World’s Education Platform, our Big Tech Project engages students from leading universities in the UAE and India, fostering innovation in technology-based solutions for global supply chains.
SDG 5: Gender Equality
DP World promotes gender equality through technology education, cultivating a diverse team of coders and engineers. Initiatives break gender stereotypes and include partnerships like The Maiden Factor's world tour championing girls' education.
