HIGHLIGHTS
Strengthening the safety culture
We closed 2022 with 27 workplace accidents, or a frequency rate of 20.07, which is a 44% improvement compared to 2021.
In 2023, we recorded 15 workplace accidents, or a frequency rate of 11.54, which is a 42% improvement compared to 2022.
We continue striving for no workplace accidents.
Decrease of CO2
There has been a decrease of 51.09% CO2/TEU compared to 2019.
We had a 5% decrease of the absolute CO2 emissions in 2023 compared to 2022. In 2023, the end-result was 9.83 kilotons, a 26% decrease compared to the original reference year 2019.
Having already made significant progress, DP World is pushing itself to go further and have reset decarbonisation target to achieve a 42% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2030 (with 2022 as the new baseline). This is in line with the goals of the Paris Agreement.
For Ports and Terminals in Europe this means a new total decarbonisation goal of 51% by 2030.
Number of training hours
Each employee received, on average, 3.5 hours of training, 71 % of which is HSE-related training.
Our objective is to give our employees as much opportunities as possible for development and training.
Partnerships and donations
DP World Antwerp has various partnerships in place to help protect oceans, restore ecosystems, clean up nature and build a more sustainable world.
More specifically, we are partner of organisations sustaining women such as WISTA and City Pirates. We will continue our long-term strategic partnerships.
OUR SUSTAINABILITY RESULTS
We invest in our business for the long term, drive best practices, invest in innovation, and measure our progress, always looking for more. We look for ways to innovate and improve in all our commitments. We are committed to sharing what we do with our customers, suppliers, and partners to encourage sustainable practices.
Every two years, DP World Antwerp publishes its Sustainability Report, presenting the results and achievements during this period. As the first container terminal in the port of Antwerp to publish a Sustainability Report, our goal is to remain a leader in sustainability.
The report illustrates our commitments to our most relevant Sustainable Development Goals. We use the international GRI reference framework to make our performances measurable and our commitments tangible.
2013 – 2016
Highlights in the first sustainability report covering 2013-2016 include DP World Antwerp's leadership position in safety within the port of Antwerp, our sustainable investments such as efficient and energy saving automated stacking cranes, a wind turbine and a biogas plant, and finally our well trained and committed staff.
2017 – 2018
DP World Antwerp saved 10.6 million kg CO2 in four years time and made 90,000 truck transports redundant on Belgian roads in 2017-2018. For this second sustainability report, we consulted our stakeholders to determine our focus areas and most relevant results.
2019 – 2021
As the world found ways to adapt to the ‘new normal’, we transformed our business by exploring uncharted territories, digitalising our supply chain, partnering with Expo 2020 Dubai, and expanding our logistics network. By connecting the world through trade, we came one step closer to realising our vision to be a leader in the future of global trade.
2022 – 2023
Over the past few years, DP World Antwerp has invested in state-of-the-art technologies to reduce emissions, implemented waste reduction programs, and fostered biodiversity in our surrounding marine and terrestrial ecosystems. Our efforts have not only contributed to a cleaner port environment, but also to the well-being of our community and the efficiency of our operations.
