Date: 21/06/2024

COSCO Shipping Lines Suriname and DP World Paramaribo annually initiate community activities aimed at the restoration of our oceans and environmental conservation. This year, in the context of World Oceans Day, for both organizations planned an educational boat trip for a group of students from the Djamaitul Islamiah School in La Vigilantia, Para, on the Suriname River.

As socially responsible organizations, COSCO Shipping Lines Suriname and DP World Paramaribo have developed an ocean strategy with the ambition to take actions to realize the vision for the restoration of the ocean and a sustainable blue economy. They do this by initiating activities, resources, and skills to actively participate in the protection and restoration of the ocean, promoting good stewardship, and strengthening local communities for a better future. With a "Source-To-Sea approach," both organizations recognize that their activities on land can influence our ocean and river water sources, with domino effects on river and ocean life, human health, the blue economy, and more. The choice fell on the Djamaitul Islamiah School in Para, La Vigilantia, because both COSCO Shipping Lines Suriname and DP World Paramaribo conduct activities in that area. Through this joint action, COSCO Shipping Lines Suriname and DP World Paramaribo have educated the youth about the maritime and logistics activities conducted on water and emphasized the importance of our oceans and river water sources. The youth were subsequently appointed as sustainability "Ocean" ambassadors and committed to actively contributing to the preservation of water sources by tackling plastic and waste pollution.
