Rotterdam, 10 January 2023: DP World has launched a direct rail service between Switzerland and the Port of Rotterdam, enhancing its impressive European Intermodal Network further and offering more sustainable and robust transport solutions to its customers.
The new service, which started on 01 January 2023, connects Rotterdam with three roundtrips per week with calls in Basel (Frenkendorf) and Zurich (Niederglatt).
It is another significant step for DP World’s Intermodal Network, which consists of 12 inland terminals: three in Germany, four in Switzerland, two in Belgium and three in the Alsace region of France, providing resilient trimodal transport – road, rail, and waterway – solutions between European deep-sea ports and its network of inland terminals.
This latest service launch also forms a part of DP World’s journey to increase its end-to-end logistical capability in Europe and beyond, providing reliably consistent services from factory floor to customer door.
Rob Harrison, Interim Head of Freight at DP World Europe, said: “The direct rail connection between Switzerland and Rotterdam is a very exciting start of the New Year. The new service offers an unrivalled connection to Rotterdam World Gateway and the other deep-sea terminals in terms of speed and reliability.”
In addition to the new direct service between Rotterdam, Basel and Zurich, delivered in partnership with Swissterminal, DP World is also increasing the frequency of the rail service between Switzerland and Antwerp to four rounds trips a week from Frenkendorf and two round trips a week from Niederglatt.
