Our approach to Safety is based on caring for our people, environment, communities in which we work and stakeholder partners.

Our goal is to make sure everyone goes home safe by embracing a zero-harm approach in our business. We can do this through a group-wide shift in culture where SAFETY is to be embraced as part of our everyday actions and mindset.

We have a comprehensive understanding of business risk and our Strategy provides practical approaches to eliminating or reducing them.

Group HSE management systems provide a framework for the actions that DP World implements. These meet international safety standards such as ISO 45001 (Occupational HSE) and ISO 14001 (Environmental Management Systems).

COMMITMENTS WE LIVE BY

Fundamentals

We will: commit to lead by example, take time to identify hazards and risk controls are in place, stop unsafe work and report unsafe acts and conditions, look out for ourselves and everyone in the workplace, present to work fit for duty, use personal electronic devices in designated areas only, and always wear our PPE and ensure it is maintained in good condition.

Pedestrian Protection

We will: always be seen and separate ourselves from mobile equipment, never enter ‘no walk zones’ unless authorized and controlled, only use designated walkways and never use shortcuts, and stay alert at all time and avoid distractions in operating areas.

Working at Heights

We will: remove ourselves from potential falls from height, secure tool and equipment to prevent falling objects, barricade or control access to the ‘drop zone’ below, and use fail prevention and protection as required.

Mobile Equipment

We will: drive to conditions and not exceed speed limits, be alert and avoid distractions when driving, always wear seatbelts, not leave equipment idling or unattended, comply with traffic management rules.

Energy Isolation

We will: confirm that hazardous energy sources have been isolated, locked and tagged, verify isolation and controls before work begins, only apply and remove our own personal lock and tag, and remain clear of isolated areas.

Handling Loads

We will: never stand or place part of our body in a crush zone between objects, not walk under or near suspended loads, follow instructions of the person in charge of the lift, adhere to exclusion zones including swing paths and safe distances, not leave suspended loads unattended, and check loads are stable, secured, and free from loose objects.

    We are a partner in the US CBP Program – Secure Freight Initiative (Integrated Container Scanning Pilot Projects).

    We were the first international port operator invited to become member of US Customs Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT).

  • ISO/PAS 28000

    We own the first container terminal in North America to be certified to ISO/PAS 28000 – the highest independent security certification and has been accredited with the Lloyd’s Register Quality Assurance (LRQA) since February 2007.

  • PIP

    We are a PIP (Partners in Protection) participant – a Canada Border Services Agency security initiative.
